Look MOM... no tails!

What do you mean I have to stay in the bed with the puppies... I always stay in bed with you on nights like this....
Thus the reason I had NO SLEEP last night!! between the lightning, thunder and hungry babies, Latte decided she was still a bit of a "baby" herself.... so I slept in the YES room with the Yorkies! I knew what tomorrow would bring....
Today, day 6 of their wee little lives was the day that TR had been singing of the "3 Blind mice"... (can you believe TR and SJ came home from the church with that song in their repertoire?)... so, today around 8AM the babies had tails...
then... Yes, Latte, there is something missing! NO TAILS!!! (yes, I take them to the vet because I want it done right!)
Jewel doesn't seem too bothered at this point, but a couple of hours ago.... she was not so happy.
Then there is Elvis.... looking rather cool knowing that he will be the most handsome guy around and to maintain this amount of debonair, he must endure a bit of discomfort.
tomorrow they will be 1 week old... and they are so strong and healthy! Good job Latte! Maybe tonight the storms will be less tumultuous and we can BOTH sleep!

first visitors

Yesterday Latte had visitors who'd much anticipated these little ones. SJ was most concerned when I told him that Latte's babies were in her tummy... his little distressed face expressed his heart "mommy did she eat them?"... so it's good that now we can complete the explanation with a great visual. The squirmy little black babies that were indeed in their mommy and are now out for us to cuddle. TR was first to come by. Elly held the little bundle for TR to examine and make sure all was as it should be.
yep... looks good Tahtee, now can I get in the play pen with them. To which mommy, Ellena said ..."I'm thinking that's not going to be such a good idea for the boys."... so from the outside my precious warrior grandsons get to touch and love the babies.
But then Latte gets another visitor... After she gets out of school, and before softball practice, there is a little 1st grader that has been the MOST anxious of all to see the babies. In fact, her request to me was... "Tahtee, can I name them?" now this is a REALLY big deal... you must understand... because to NAME something is to place a certain CLAIM on that which is named... so, KG gets to NAME THE BABIES.... and my name , Caesar, is NOT one of them...
Tahtee, I like Miley... because of Hannah Montana, and I like that girl that sings that song about "clothes on the line"... but I think I'll call her JEWEL... because she is so pretty. Okay sweetheart, Jewel it is, now what are we gonna call our little boy?
Well, I was thinking Chubby would be good since he got stuck, but that's not a really nice name, and I really like the name you picked, but Tahtee,.... you said I could name him.
Yes, I did KG... so what is it gonna be?
Well, he's got black hair, and he's a bit of a showy puppy.... I think we'll call him
ELVIS!!!!
see how he "shakes hands" with me? I like them Tahtee!
I do too!
Aren't we gonna have fun with them until we see who's hearts will hold them next?

Beware the IDES OF MARCH (2 puppies)

May I tell you that this morning I am a thankful lady. I have my little friend Latte and she has 2 beautiful babies, BUT the story from yesterday did not hold the promise that today brought...
We knew today was the day on the calendar for the arrival of Latte's last litter of babies. We also knew that this very week a friend who had used the same daddy dog we used had lost all her babies and almost her momma dog. Then we heard another story very similar, and all this in this week. I was anxious... and wondered WHY DID YOU EVER HAVE HER BRED AGAIN???
my answer??? It was so easy last time and Latte was such a great mom, but mostly because I know what joy these little ones brought last time, and this Spring, I wanted that joy one more time for me and for everyone else that will be involved with these babies.
so.... we were at the point of this is the day!
Latte got her nest ready and looked at me as if to say... are you ready?
yes I am sweet girl, lets get these babies here to see what God is gonna bring us.
But after several hours, my little girl just wasn't making any progress...
so, after calling my friends who are expert puppy people, and my precious family vet, Randy... and finally the emergency vet on call... I made an executive decision... 4 hours and no progress, I wanted someone besides me to see about my girl, so off to the emergency vet in town we went. Dr. Hilton examined her and lo and behold... waiting was NOT an option because there was on little guy stuck! (in my desire to have healthy puppies and a strong mommy, I think I overdid the vitamins for this little litter... or else there was just a puppy with a big head... either way, Cesarean section was the ONLY alternative!!)
Decision made, Latte was not thrilled with the guys trying to help her, but 1 hour later, we have 2 healthy puppies and one tired, but ALIVE mommy! Notice... the larger of the 2 tiny babies is our little boy... I think I'll call him CAESAR (big name for a little dog, but appropriate don't you think?) and the little girl is sleek and teensy... but oh so cute!
The vet said she might not assume her responsibilities since it was not a normal birth, but I knew he didn't know this momma. After the anesthesia wore away, she once again became the amazing momma dog she was the first time.
Yes, Latte, this is the little guy who didn't want to come into the world... what do ya think?
Funny how they don't even look like yorkies at 1 day old huh? He has a little white spot on his chest and more gold than the little girl, but he is a beautiful and perfect little boy!
You'll have to excuse my commanding green nails (Thank you KG!!) , but you can see the feminine difference in our little girl. Doesn't she look like a sleek little seal? She's quieter than the boy too (at least right now) ... we'll see what difference there is over the next couple of weeks.
But for now, today, March 13th (isn't that the IDES of MARCH?... well, really the 15th for March, and the 13th on 8 of the other months).... all is well with our little yorkie family, and we are anticipating VERY much fun watching these guys grow into the beautiful puppies for which our Latte is known.
Thank You to all of you who prayed for me to have peace (with my animal stuff) and for the well being of my little doggie friend. It is a good day!
